Dean E09 Edge Bass, Mahogany Finish
It is often said the "beauty is skin deep," but the Dean Edge Bass is clearly and exception. While beauty was the inspiration, we put every bit of our 20-plus years of design experience into these models. We started with a body styled and contoured for comfort, and to make them lighter we used choice basswood. The maple necks were profiled to be faster and sleeker than virtually all others. We designed a "uniquely Dean" custom neck joint and heel along with our asymmetrical four-bolt pattern, creating uninterrupted access all the way up the two octave neck. The Edge Bass is offered in four, five and six string models. Experience one of the world's finest basses. E09 M is the most affordable in the Edge Line.
With so many on offer these days, it is great to have a name you can trust. This item is certainly that and will be a perfect buy. The distributor have added some great touches and this equals great value.

Great beginner instrument
I've been learning to play bass with this model for about a year and a half, and I enjoy it thoroughly. It's lighter than some instruments, but still has enough mass that it has a good tone. The neck is maybe not as slender as some fancier, faster basses, but it's still quite comfortable. It stays in tune well, and I've never had any troubles with the knobs or electronics.

With only a single pickup, and just knobs for volume and treble, you don't have much flexibility in sound. If you're just learning or playing for fun, this isn't much of an issue. The bass sounds great for a variety of jazz, blues and rock. One person I play with thinks the tone from this bass is nicer than one of his that cost about eight times as much.

A couple of other thoughts... You'll want to find a local guitar store to help you make adjustments periodically (and perhaps with initial setup), or learn to do it yourself. I use a Behringer practice amp, and it's partially responsible...

Good bass guitar for beginners
At first, when I took it out of the packaging and plugged it in......DOA! No sound at all. Took it to a guitar shop, they opened the panel in the back and found out that there was some shoddy soldering and defective mini-pots that had a bad connection. They did some minor soldering and adjustments and it works fine now. The guy at the shop who fixed it said that Dean guitars tended to have this issue. I had bad luck and got a lemon. Luckily, it was an easy fix and he didn't charge me.

Also, the strings were too low to the fret board(low action). When you plucked the strings, it would rattle against the frets. They adjusted the neck, so that the strings don't rattle any more. I haven't learned how to do this myself yet.

When buying any guitar online, it's a crap shoot. When you buy a guitar at a shop or online, you'll inevitably have to bring it in to a shop for adjustments anyway, if you don't know how to do it yourself.

Pros:
- Once...
really GREAT instrument!
its pretty! the single pickup has a tone control with a wide range, I get all sorts of musical tones from my Dean 09. I have several others from peavey, fender, schecter and THIS ONE IS a favorite already! its lightweight, has GREAT bass sound, and its what I needed for a ramones cover band as the bass does not overpower as do my schecters... the finger board is comfortable. I would most def recommend this bass! it makes me want to REALLY PLAY!
