Rotosound still tops
I bought these to re-string a short-scale bass I bought, an Epiphone EBO. I considered a lot of flatwound strings. However, over the years, regardless of the type of string or the application, I have relied on Rotosound for their consistency. Round-wound or flatwound, these have never failed to deliver. I have not tried the super-pricey strings like pyramids. I play these on my EBO with a Hartke VXL pedal and it sounds great.

Not for Thru-Body Short Scale Bass
These are probably great sounding and playing strings. But, I'll never know since they don't fit my 30" short scale through-body Fender Mustang Bass. The through-body design adds at least an extra inch to how long the strings need to be, so the blue fuzzy core doesn't clear the first fret to get behind the nut to the machine heads. Now I'm waiting for those elusive La Bella flatwounds custom-made for the Mustang bass...
very nice, deep and round.
I am relatively new to bass. These get me closer to the tone I am looking for, dark smooth and twang-free. Think late 60''s, early 70's heavy rock. These are very nice, more like a standup bass than your usual electric strings. they go very well with my short scale gibson eb-3. I gave only 4 stars because I have only used them for a few weeks so I can't vouch for their performance over time but I don't worry much about this as I only change my strings when they break and I have never broken a bass string.
UPDATE: I am giving these five stars now as I have had them for a while and they sound and feel great. I would buy in the future if I need to replace.
