D'Addario ECB84 Chromes Bass Guitar Strings, Custom Light, 40-100, Long Scale
D'Addario Chromes Flatwound Bass strings are famed for their smooth feel and warm, mellow tone. The strings are wound using an outer flattened, "ribbon" wire which is then polished to a smooth finish. Chromes deliver a deep, rich low end tone that's ideal for jazz and R&B, but also has applications in contemporary pop music.
With so many on offer these days, it is great to have a name you can trust. This item is certainly that and will be a perfect buy. The distributor have added some great touches and this equals great value.

Best all-around flatwound bass strings on the market
I have used these strings before, just never purchased them from Amazon before. Before I continue, let me say that every brand of flatwound bass string has its own unique characteristics, and one is not necessarily better than another... but I believe the D'Addario Chromes are the best for all around serviceability, and would appeal to the widest group of users. Their frequency response is extended from that of traditional flatwounds such as LaBella, with a much more pronounced high-end, but also a big, pillowy low-end and somewhat subdued mids when compared to Rotosound flats. You can actually slap on these strings with great "old-school" results... the materials and construction are first-rate. The outer wrappings are perfectly mated and you cannot detect any gaps at all. Polished and smooth, your fingers just glide effortlessly over them. If you want to experience the best that flatwound strings have to offer, try the Chromes. They are the best all-around flatwound bass strings.

Great Mellow Strings for Praise and Worship
I really like the mellow sound of D'Addario strings. I have a hollow-body electric and an acoustic/electric bass and have played with D'Addario Chromes on both.

SCALE/GUITAR: I purchased the SUPER LONG scale for a through-the-body set-up on an Epiphone Zenith 34" scale guitar. The D'Addario long scale came up slightly short and the full windings didn't even make the nut on the through-the-body Epiphone set-up. Additionally, it feels like the longer scale actually alleviated some of the neck tension (I may be wrong but it feels that way).

COMFORT: The Flat-wound Chromes are incredibly comfortable strings. If you like to slide all over the place, these strings are for you and produce zero slide noise.

SOUND: I love the mellow sound they produce. I play on a worship team and these strings can solo on the most reverent of songs. A very full and balanced sound that is 'there' without being 'on top' or distracting.

CONS: The only con I have...
