DR Strings Hi-Beam Flats - Flatwound Stainless Steel Round Core Bass 45-105
DR Strings flat wound Hi-Beam stainless steel bass strings are constructed upon a round core unique in the industry. Hi-Beams require much more time care and extra steps to make than other bass strings. The extra effort DR expends making Hi-Beams results in a bass string that is highly flexible musically warm and renowned for durability unusually long life consistency and string-to-string balance. They don't eat your frets. Medium gauge only.
With so many on offer these days, it is great to have a name you can trust. This item is certainly that and will be a perfect buy. The distributor have added some great touches and this equals great value.

Great product.
I've tried many bass strings. DR seems to always out shine them all. I've got a lot of extra sets laying around now except for the DRs Flats which are on my bass. Charlie.

So Far.
I just put these strings on. I am a big fan of DR's. I've tried many, many, flatwounds. Including D'Addario, Labella, Thomastik, Rotosound, GHS, Fender and many tapewounds as well. These stack up well to all and outshine most. They are most comparable to the Thomastik although significantly cheaper. There are things that I like about the Labella's better but the DR's are far more "playable" in that they don't feel as stiff as many flats which to me is similar to the Thomastiks. They are not as Fat sounding as Labella's and not as Jamerson-y. However they have a very clear, very interesting sound that is very usable.
Clear with a nice thumpy crunch!
Have tried several flatwound strings and depending on the bass you have them on, I think they are all great. (D'Addario, Rotosound and DRs, as well as Fender and Rotosound tapewound flats).

I have the DR "Legends" on a '54 style P Bass, with one single coil pickup. The DRs are the best on this bass, for the crunchy percussive sound like Carl Radle had on JJ Cale's 'Naturally' album. I'd tried D'Addario previously and they weren't right for this (but they really rock on my G&L SB2).

The thing the DRs have over other flats is they are so flexible and have a lower tension. They also have a clear finish, so while they are nice and thumpy as flatwound should be they also have this clear as a bell tone. So they have great presence and such a great feel you just can't stop playing them. A friend who played my '54 Pbass, who's been playing for more than 30 years and a 'flats man', said they reminded him of his LaBellas which are his strings of choice on his 60's...
