D'Addario Half Round bass strings are wound with pure nickel, then precision ground, leaving the outer surface smooth and "semi-flat." They retain the flexibility and many of the tonal characteristics of round wound strings. Our Half Round heat-treating process increases the brightness of the strings.
With so many on offer these days, it is great to have a name you can trust. This item is certainly that and will be a perfect buy. The distributor have added some great touches and this equals great value.

The pursuit of Geddy
I normally play flatwound strings, so this was a slight change for me. I've been playing bass for 20 years now, and I started out with roundwounds (Blue Steels, etc.). But when I bought my Ibanez bass (which creates a brighter and more active sound than a Fender Jazz, for example), I compensated with easier-to-play flatwound strings, which I've played with for the last ten years or more. This time I wanted a little more brightness and attack in my sound so that I could have a little more presence on stage, and that's what I got. We play a lot of Rush, Yes, U2, Pink Floyd, etc., so these strings added just what I wanted.
The only "problem" was that it took a week or so for my fingers to adjust because they no longer slide as easily as they did on flatwound strings. So this means that the callouses and frets will wear just a little bit more (though certainly not nearly as much as with roundwounds), and my fingers have to move a little extra to compensate for not being able to...

Best Tone
Used these for years, can't beat the sustain and warmth, regardless of style/genre. I started using them playing in hardcore/punk/metal bands, they give a good solid bottom and a nice ring.
Excellent strings
These were my first foray into half wound strings, and I couldn't be happier. They have an unbelievably smooth feel and an incredibly short break in time. There's little to no fatigue from playing them, even after several hours of continuous playing, and they sound great.
They're great strings for the player who crosses genres; on my Carvin I find them to be best for jazz, though they're also good for classic rock, and with some tweaking of your amp they more than pass as funk and slapping strings.
All in all these are really great strings that will allow you to get virtually any sound you want out of them, and they won't kill your fingers. I highly recommend them.
Happy practicing!
