D'Addario Chromes Flatwound Bass strings are famed for their smooth feel and warm, mellow tone. The strings are wound using an outer flattened, "ribbon" wire which is then polished to a smooth finish. Chromes deliver a deep, rich low end tone that's ideal for jazz and R&B, but also has applications in contemporary pop music.
With so many on offer these days, it is great to have a name you can trust. This item is certainly that and will be a perfect buy. The distributor have added some great touches and this equals great value.

Decent strings if they fit
D'Addario Chromes are OK flatwound strings, though they're a high-tension string, about the same as their XL's (roundwounds) in the department. Unfortunately, the short-scale set did not fit my Guild Starfire bass (much too short!). It wasn't just a case of buying the wrong set like an idiot, either. The long-scales fit better but not perfectly, and these short-scale Chromes don't even fit a Fender Mustang bass OR a violin bass-- I tried them with both those instruments in an effort to get some use out of these strings.
In light of the fit problems, I would skip these strings. Who knows what 'short scale' bass they're supposed to fit.

I love em, my fingers love em, and my Gretsch loves em!
Prior to purchasing my Gretsch G2220 Electromatic Junior Jet II Bass, I did a fair amount of research and learned that the factory setup included standard long scale strings, cut down to fit the short scale neck. When the bass arrived, the first thing I did after discarding the packing materials was to replace the strings with the D'Addario flatwounds.
They fit perfectly and help augment the "Gretsch Sound" I was looking for. They also allowed me to lower the action of the strings for better playability. Heck, I've only been playing for less than a year and I can really tell the difference!
Thank you D'Addario!
Magnificent, But Watch the Scale Length
This is an excellent product for a very reasonable price. Take note that these are SHORT SCALE strings (30 in. scale), not the usual LONG SCALE (34 in. scale). If your strings go through-body and you have a 30" scale length you may opt for D'Addario's MEDIUM SCALE (32 in.) strings because of the extra length involved. I have always been very impressed with D'Addario strings, especially their flatwounds. They are mellow, yet vibrant and have a very long life and these are no exception. I use these on my Grestch with a TV Jones pickup and they are a wonder to play. I highly recommend these strings if they work for your bass and you like flatwounds.
