Rotosound Nylon Flatwound Bass Strings
Wow! These strings are fabulous. I put them on my Michael Kelly 5 string acoustic bass and it changed the instrument functionally. An acoustic bass with wire strings can buzz, feedback and produce undesirable sounds when amplified. The Rotosound Nylon coating on these strings eliminates all of those undesirable effects. They allow me to play louder, stronger and really bring out the acoustic tone of the instrument. My low "B" doesn't buzz, there is no slide noise and the sound is clean and rich. I favor the tube amp but the characteristics carry through when I play through the solid state combo. It's a very acoustic sound. I'm confident that if these were put on an electric bass they would transform the instrument to a much more mellow acoustic sound. I'm leaving my electric alone for now, and I feel I have the best of both worlds. They're a lot softer on the fingers too! Now all they need to do is make them for a long scale upright!

Check your sizes!
Bought these for my 5-string bass. Indeed, they do vastly reduce the noise from sliding--which I do a fair amount in my playing. They were fatter than the strings I was replacing, and didn't fit into the grooves in the nut on the head piece! I suspect this was MY error in size selection, not anything to do with the product per se. So, I moved the strings down one position (E fit into the low B, for example) and they fit. For the G, I just let my old string on (funny look, but I can live with it.)
Sound is darker. Indeed, not great for slapping (which I knew going in).
Final impressions: If you slide a fair amount, and you make sure you're getting the right sizes, these are fine. The sound will be a bit darker than the metal-wound non-flat types, but that may be fine with your style.
these strings are the best for fretless
I like these so much that I put a set on my other fretless bass. I have played gigs where I never even grabbed my fretted bass because I was having so much fun playing the fretless. These are mellow, and silky mooth, and very easy on the hands. Plus, they should last much longer since the nylon should protect the underlying metal. Some people would probably think these sound too dull, but I am cranking up the midrange frequencies and even a 2x 8 inch cabinet amp fills the room with the sound of an upright bass. There is essentially no string finger noise. You can slide all the way up and day with a smooth, mellow sound.
I would not recommend these for a fretted bass though - it would probably not sound good on metal frets and I suspect the metal would tear through the nylon coating. These are definitely worth a try if your fretless needs a change in pace.
