Too Much for too little
I'll have to be honest with you, I hadn't had a set of these in years, and when I recently purchased a Fender American Deluxe Precision 5 stringer, I bought a pack of these to restring it.
The results were pretty dead sounding right out of the package in standard tuning. I tuned it down a step and they were even worse. The tension wasn't beefed up enough for my tastes and the sound was way to warm, almost dull.

Excellent Long Lasting Bass Strings
Great string for all styles of playing, great definition and clarity, lots of bite without being brittle, tight B and lows and very flexible
Excellent Response
I have used these strings since I was introduced to them in New Orleans.I have also used a variety of other types and ended up going back. Even, taking a relatively new set of another brand off, and replacing them with DR's when I found a vendor who had them in stock. They are on all of my five string basses and, I'd even use them on the six string if DR made a set in my gauge preference. The tone is crisp, but deep and defined. I own a recording studio and play weekly. To me, tone is everything, and these strings have it. To be quite honest, I've only had one pack that had dead strings but, out of the dozens of sets I've bought, thats a pretty good average. This is not atypical because, I also own 11 guitars and buy three times as many strings for them, and I've also gotten a couple of dead sets with the brand I use for them (Elixir)....Long story short, they record well and, perform live with authority.
